Step off the usual paths and uncover a hidden side of Morocco as you journey beyond Marrakech into palm-lined oases and expansive deserts on this opulent 10-night expedition. Explore the ancient kasbahs of Skoura and delve into the history of Zagora, with much to see. Additionally, there’s a chance to unplug as you venture into the pristine dunes of Erg Chigaga for a night under the stars. Far from the hustle and deeply immersed in Moroccan culture, this adventure is truly worthwhile.
THE JOURNEY BEGINS WITH 24 HOURS IN MARRAKECH
Arriving in Marrakech, your initial night will be spent in the luxurious setting of Villa des Orangers or a similar hotel, allowing you to familiarize yourself with the city during an afternoon private tour of the labyrinthine souks and the vibrant Jemaa el Fna square. The following morning, you’ll bid farewell to this as your private driver-guide arrives to accompany you for the next eight days of this journey. Departing the medina, you’ll traverse the central Atlas Mountains, pausing at the historic Glaoui kasbah in Telouet, continuing through the Ounila Valley to the hilltop fortress of Ait Ben Haddou, and proceeding through Ouarzazate to the palm-lined deserts of Skoura.
Arrive at the stunning Dar Ahlam or a comparable hotel, depending on availability, and spend the afternoon unwinding by the pool before embarking on a day of exploration tomorrow. Accompanied by your private guide, you’ll visit quaint villages to meet the welcoming locals and interact with local potters, before venturing to the ancient kasbahs in the vicinity. Next, journey to Kelaa M’Gouna to taste the renowned rose water and oil, followed by a relaxed hike through the Dades Valley, complete with a picnic to celebrate your adventure. Conclude your day with a candlelit dinner at your hotel before continuing your journey deeper into Morocco tomorrow.

FROM THE DRAA VALLEY TO THE EDGE OF THE DESERT
Journey through the Draa Valley, adorned with date palms, tomorrow to explore the ancient kasbah at Tamnougalt. Here, you’ll gain a glimpse into Mezguita history in this former capital before heading to Zagora, the desert’s gateway city. Far from the internet and televisions, your stay at Azalai Desert Lodge will immerse you in adventure. Each room is named after explorers and writers, honoring the era of discovery. Embark on your own quest by visiting the old Mellah Jewish Quarter tomorrow, where you’ll meet local artisans and discover how they incorporate symbols from Africa and the Middle East into their creations. In the afternoon, ascend to a panoramic viewpoint above the city for a sunset picnic, marking your final night in Zagora.
GLAMPING IN THE SAHARA DESERT
Departing from Zagora, you’ll head south to Tamergroute, known for hosting one of the largest Sufi brotherhoods. During your visit, explore the Zaouia Islamic culinary school and the Koranic library before arriving at the terminus of the paved roads in M’Hamid. From this point, embark on an off-road journey through the Sahara Desert in your private 4×4, leading you to your opulent desert camp nestled in the dunes of Erg Chigaga. Relax under the canvas and immerse yourself in the tranquility before traveling back in time to experience the desert as it has been for generations. Stroll leisurely across the dunes, captivated by the sun’s descent as it gently touches the sands, creating a sunset that will linger in your memory.
OFF TO THE MINI MARRAKECH: TAROUDANT
Begin your day by immersing yourself in the Sahara Desert’s allure as you journey across its delicate sands, passing by desiccated lakes and fossil sites, and entering the hamada stone desert. Once you emerge, proceed north to Tazenkahat, renowned for its beautifully crafted carpets, and continue to the fortified city of Taroudant. Settle into one of our city hotels and unwind by the pool with the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop, or indulge in a relaxing spa treatment. The following day, delve into the city’s charm with an expert guide, exploring the leather tanneries and bustling souks brimming with ancient Berber silver, stone carvings, antiques, and local crafts—perhaps acquiring a keepsake or two. Conclude the day by ascending the ramparts to take in the breathtaking view.
BACK TO THE VIBRANT CITY OF MARRAKECH
After departing Taroudant, you’ll return to Marrakech the following morning for two final nights at Villa des Orangers or a similar property before heading back home. Between exploring the souk and enjoying luxurious hammam visits, you’ll embark on an exciting journey through Marrakech from our preferred vantage point – a vintage WWII sidecar. This unique experience will offer you a fresh perspective on the medina as you swiftly navigate its corners, absorbing the vibrant colors and aromatic fragrances of Morocco one last time. In the morning, you’ll make your way to the airport to return home. With the sands of the Sahara Desert still clinging to your boots but the memories firmly etched in your mind, you’ll depart having truly embarked on an adventure across Morocco.
